Located in the heart of Edinburgh’s historic Old Town, Howies Victoria Street is carved out of rock that Edinburgh Castle perches on above. Paired back stone walls, wooden floors and an eclectic mix of Scottish art in our restaurant marry marvellously with the historic surroundings.
Ordinarily open seven days a week, our chefs celebrate all that is great about Scottish produce. Our venison comes from our own estate in Glen Lyon, Perthshire. Our ghillie, Jimmy can tell us the exact journey from hill top to table, and because the deer are wild you can be sure you’re going to enjoy very lean, flavoursome meat. Other Scottish wild game on our menus include pheasants, duck and pigeon from the Scottish Borders.
When it comes to fish, Scotland is one of the largest fishing nations in Europe so we’re lucky to be able to source ours close to home. Our menus are packed with seafood – salmon from the Shetland Isles, trout from Loch Etive, haddock from Peterhead, hake from the North Sea and mussels from Shetland (to name but a few). Come warmer months, you can look forward to lobsters from Eyemouth with fries and salad - absolutely delicious!
We’re also equally passionate about vegetarian and vegan dishes with our fruit and vegetables coming from just down the road in Tranent.
And our commitment to working with local suppliers doesn't end there. Much research – and plenty tastings – go into the incredible drinks menu which boasts over 20 wines by the glass, a fantastic range of Scottish craft beer as well as hundreds of whiskies and gins from all over Scotland.
On Victoria Street itself you’ll find some fantastic bars and shops, including Walker Slater, The Whisky Shop and Isle of Skye Candle Co. Look up from Howies and you’ll see our sister restaurant Scotts Kitchen which is open daily from 9am for all day dining and drinks (and the perfect spot for a drink before lunch or dinner at Howies).
