Welcome to The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Regimental Museum. Here you will discover the story of one of Scotland’s great Highland Regiments, the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, which has maintained close associations with Stirling Castle reaching back over 200 years. The museum is housed in the ancient 'Kings Old Building' parts of which date back to 1496, and King James IV. It was completely redeveloped in 2020 and is bright, modern and engaging. Through our collection of documents, artefacts and tales we bring to life our regiment's, and Scotland's history, from the Jacobites through the changing role of women, music, military medicine, community and our diaspora. It gives a unique insight into Scottish culture and heritage.

The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Museum is located in Stirling Castle, in the city of Stirling, Scotland. The Museum traces the history of the 91st Argyllshire Highlanders and the 93rd Sutherland Highlanders up to the time of their amalgamation in 1881 when they became the 1st and 2nd Battalions of The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Regiment and thereafter to the present day.

Stirling Castle, Royal Palace of the Stuart Kings, has been the home of The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (Princess Louise’s) since 1881 and through the years, many objects of regimental interest have been collected including: paintings, medals, silver, uniform and documents.

In 1988 the museum was opened in the King’s Old Building of the Castle to display these objects; and, perhaps more importantly, to relate the illustrious history of the Regiment and the many personal stories of the officers, soldiers and their families.

In June 2021, the museum, and the beautiful scheduled monument in which it is homed, was reopened after a major 3-year modernisation. It is an accredited museum under Arts Council England Accreditation Scheme and the Museum Trust owns a nationally significant collection.

The Museum is a must see part of a visit to Stirling Castle and is a unique hospitality venue for small groups up to 60. What better way to expereince the proud traditions of Scottish Military History.

Opening Hours Entry to The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Museum is free as we are independently funded but do rely on donations to keep the museum open. Access to the Museum is included in the price of HES’ Stirling Castle ticket. 05 January to 31 March - open from 09.30 to 16.45 (Last entry 16.30) 01 April to 30 September - open from 09.30 to 17.45 (Last entry 17.30) The Museum operates the same opening hours as Stirling Castle. The above may be subject to change.
