Nestled in the heart of the Galloway Hills beside the tranquil Loch Ken, Galloway Activity Centre provides the perfect environment in which to experience an array of outdoor pursuits (the giant slide, kayaking, sailing and high ropes to name a few!) whether as an individual or in a group. Its well-equipped facilities provide everything from courses and equipment hire, to accommodation and holiday packages. With a lochside cafe on site we have everything you need for a day out to a full week away.
Things to do
All year round we run activities from 9am until 4pm everyday that are either 1.5hr or 3hr (half a day) taster sessions. Perfect for beginners or those wanting instruction to develop their skills. Old or young they're suitable for everyone. Alternatively we offer equiptment hire for those who wish to explore the loch themselves. Equiptment hire is available for half or a full day - we offer everything from canadian canoes to SUPs.
Whatever you fancy we highly reccomend booking ahead to ensure availability!
Taster Sessions
You can choose from the following activities or pick a combination for a fun packed day of adventures.
Kayaking - grab a paddle and head out onto the water with one of our instructors. We use modern sit on top kayaks for our taster sessions and we'll soon have you whizzing around on the water, playing a few games and having a great time. The emphasis is definitely on fun, fun, fun!
Sailing - As a Royal Yachting Association sailing training centre we're perfectly placed to teach you the basics...and yes, 3 hours is all you need to jump in a fun boat and head out onto the water. Our fully qualified instructors are at hand to offer tips and advice but you might be surprised how quickly you pick it up.
Windsurfing - Not as daunting as it used to be, using our beginner friendly boards we'll provide you with all the kit and instruction you'll need to get out on the water and get moving.
Stand Up Paddleboarding - Have a go learning to SUP, from practicing how balance on the board to creating a raft of SUPs. Its lots of fun with all the family and provides plenty of opportunity to kneel, sit or stand on the boards. During the session we will take you around the loch to explore and gives you the chance to fall in the water knowing we are there to help you back on to the board, no matter how many times the kids.
High Ropes - One of our most popular activities, the half day climbing, zip line and 40 foot giant swing experience sees you taking on a variety of challenges above the ground with friends and family watching you take new heights.
Mountain biking - Our mountain biking sessions kick off with a boat trip across the loch. Load the bikes up and head over the water towards the forest for a ride to remember. You'll be glad of our experienced instructors as they guide you around the various trails and have you back in time for tea and brownies! To get the most out of the mountain bike sessions we suggest a minimum age of 8 years old.
Giant Slip and Slide - Get ready to be soaked...racing your friends and family down the slide as quickly as possible to beat our record time. Located off the loch, this activity is perfect for all ages keen to get involved who are looking for a waterbased activity.
Archery - Fancy keeping your feet on the ground? Archery is the perfect activity for all the family to take part in and our qualified instructors will show you the basics of this ancient sport and have you hitting the bulls eye in no time. This is a quater day activity lasting roughly 1.5 hours and we have it running twice a day
Outdoor laser tag - Paintballing without the pain! Our laser tag sessions are run in the woods, a tad more adventurous than your standard game it's a great activity for groups or individuals alike. This session is an 1.5hr giving you enough time to have some serious competition with games varying depending on abilities from capture the flag to last man standing.
Wobbly Waterpark - Last but not least is our famous Wobbly Waterpark. An experience to remember and not for the faint hearted. With a variety of inflatables you'll swim between each, hauling yourself out of the water, throwing yourself down the slide or being catapulted into the air it's a session to remember. We recommend a minimum age of 10 for the waterpark and good swimming ability is essential. (Please note that due to the weather we only run this during the summer months)
