Cared for by the National Trust for Scotland. Downton Abbey fans need look no further to find the perfect example of Edwardian stately living. Designed by Robert Lorimer, Hill of Tarvit exhibits life both upstairs and downstairs. Get stuck into period parlour games, admire the Chinese porcelain and Raeburn paintings, or take a stroll through the garden.

Hill of Tarvit was originally Wemyss Hall. In 1904, the new owner, Frederick Sharp, commissioned Robert Lorimer to transform the 17th-century house into an early-20th-century mansion. When the Sharp family moved into Hill of Tarvit, they had electricity, telephones connecting each room and central heating.

Lorimer also designed the landscaped gardens, with formal lawns, yew hedging, flowering borders and a sunken rose garden.

There’s plenty to do in the house, from outwitting your chums in fun period parlour games in the Patron's room to admiring the Chinese porcelain and Raeburn paintings. Outside, take a stroll through the grounds for some relaxing, open-air aromatherapy.

Sports enthusiasts will enjoy playing lawn games, a spot of croquet or trying their hand at billiards or snooker on the full-sized original table. If you enjoy a game of golf, you’re in for a real treat here.
