Cared for by the National Trust for Scotland. Discover a garden for all seasons, landscaped beauty and a haven for wildlife. Take a stroll through the secret garden, rockery and walled garden. At the centre of the estate stands the 19th-century Threave House. The wider estate includes the UK’s only bat reserve and an osprey viewing platform.

There are plenty of features to explore, including the Discovery Garden for children, glasshouses, cascades and rock gardens, ponds, a walled garden, and a bird hide in Kelton Hill Wood, where red squirrels are often seen too.

A guided tour of Threave House provides a fascinating insight into the story of the Gordon family – booking in advance is advisable.

The wider estate has trails and woodland walks to enjoy, leading to viewpoints, the nature reserve and the River Dee. The nature reserve includes wildlife hides and an osprey viewing platform. Peregrine falcons, red squirrels, waders, kingfishers and otters make their home here. At dusk, see if you can spot some of our rare beautiful bats in their natural habitat – Threave is Scotland's only Bat Reserve.

Make time to visit the impressive ruins of Threave Castle (managed by Historic Environment Scotland). Situated on a small island in the middle of the river, it’s only accessible by a short ferry ride, which you can summon by ringing a bell on the jetty.

There is a well-stocked gift shop and plant centre with rare and Threave-grown plants for sale. Make time to enjoy home-made soups and sweet treats in our cafés.
