Castle Kennedy Gardens near Stranraer create the perfect habitat for a fascinating range of species who find perfect sanctuary in the 75 acres of woodland, lochs and gardens

Resident Garden Ranger frequently leads family 'birding' events using hides, building bird boxes and bird feeders while helping visitors tracking down the resident birds and wildfowl. Learn to spot greylag geese, herons, grebes, oyster catchers and occasionally ospreys, or build a bird box for yourself and take it home. Binoculars and guide books are available to hire or purchase from our Gift Shop.

Red squirrels, otters, foxes, hares, stoats, hedgehogs......who knows what may suddenly appear in front of visitors to Castle Kennedy Gardens? Garden Ranger leads regular themed 'Animal Safaris' for families and children looking for all different kinds of animal life. If it walks, wriggles, crawls or flies – prepare to discover what lives alongside all the marvellous trees, plants and flowers in the Gardens

There’s loads for children to do at Castle Kennedy Gardens. There's a full autumn programme of fabulous weekend adventures including Pond Dipping, Bug and Mini-Beast Hunting, Animal Safaris and Photo Safaris all with the resident Garden Ranger. There are also massive, sloping lawns and sculptured features where wee ones can let rip, plus Open Air Theatre productions
