At Glen Lyon Coffee we have been roasting delicious speciality coffee in the Scottish Highlands for over a decade. Proud to be a certified B Corp, since 2014 we have been based in Aberfeldy where we showcase the world's finest coffees at our roastery café.
We are open to the public for coffee, pastries, beans and merch on Monday to Saturday from 9AM to 4PM.
Set up in 2011 in Perthshire’s beautiful and remote Glen Lyon, founder Fiona Grant installed a small roaster in the bothy next to her house and started selling small batch roasts at local farmers’ markets. After a couple of winters digging coffee deliveries out of snow drifts on the glen’s single track road, the business moved down to a light and airy roastery in nearby Aberfeldy on the banks of the river Tay.
Our roastery is a bright and airy space with plenty of room for two Probat roasting machines, a cupping lab, a retail and café area and outside decking for seating and events.
At the core of the business is a passion for delicious coffee and a commitment to ethical and sustainable coffee sourcing. We buy seasonally from Latin America and Africa and have direct trade links with farms in Bolivia, Brazil, Guatemala, and Costa Rica. In 2022 we became the first speciality coffee company in Scotland to offer a coffee shipped from Colombia aboard a sailboat, offering a taste of a future less reliant on carbon-intensive cargo shipping.
Glen Lyon Coffee Roasters lies at the heart of our local community. We share our space to host various community events throughout the year from blues and poetry nights to the monthly Aberfeldy Repair Café. We are proud of our Coffee Academy which offers free training and work experience to school leavers. Based in a remote, rural, low income area with limited job prospects and job security, we feel that young people in Highland Perthshire need as much support as possible with developing experience and skills for the working world.
We are committed to tackling climate change. We carry out a carbon assessment of our business annually and plant trees with Trees for Life in Glen Affric in Inverness-shire every autumn. We are committed to zero waste and have led the way in Scotland with our compostable coffee packaging. We seek to run our business as a force for good and make our impact on the planet a positive one.
