History buffs won’t want to leave Whithorn; it’s so rich in history. Get to grips with the origins of Christianity in Scotland and tales of St Ninian and pilgrims at the Whithorn Story. There’s fascinating finds from archaeological digs to see, an ancient priory and, lying just outside the village, a reconstructed Iron Age roundhouse. It’s well worth venturing to the coastline to visit the Isle of Whithorn too, a tiny village sat on a peninsula that’s as pretty a postcard. Only four miles away, the historic village was once a hub for smugglers and played a significant role in the shipping trade.
