Inveraray Jail

Argyll Coastal Route

Next stop is Inveraray, a traditional town by the banks of Loch Fyne. Head to Inveraray Jail to get a taste of how life would have been for criminals in times gone by. Meet costumed guides who will tell you the gruesome and fascinating tales of the incarcerated prisoners as you take a fun tour of this foreboding neoclassical building. If you’d prefer a taste of the finer life then make your way to Inveraray Castle. The ancestral home of the Duke of Argyll, the Chief of Clan Campbell, who still resides in the castle, it’s a beautiful example of neo-gothic architecture and is surrounded by glorious gardens.
