Located near the charming village of Alness, the Fyrish Monument stands proudly atop Fyrish Hill and has been casting its unique shadow across the landscape since 1782. It was commissioned by Sir Hector Munro, a high ranking soldier who served in India, to provide much needed employment for the local people affected by the Highland Clearances and is said to commemorate Munro’s seizure of Nagapattinam in India.

Head out on the Fyrish Monument walk (which takes about 2 – 2.5 hours to complete) and hike up the hill to the monument. From the top you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of the surrounding landscape and the Cromarty Firth.
