Part of the North West Highlands Geopark, Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve offers you a glimpse billions of years into the earth’s past. Begin at the Rock Room to discover more about the landscapes around you and learn about the Moine Thrust, where geologists in the 19th century first identified how continents collided millions of years ago to force ancient rocks on top of much younger ones. Head out into the nature reserve and look out for poetry and sculptures (plus stunning views!) as you walk. The ruins of Calda House and Ardvreck Castle are nearby too, on the picturesque shores of Loch Assynt.
