Set in the former Parish Church of Columba in Bettyhill, Strathnaver Museum is now a fascinating local history museum which tells the story of crofting life in the Highlands and the tragic history of the Highland Clearances. Also at the museum, pop into the room dedicated to the Clan Mackay and learn about this illustrious clan’s history.
In the graveyard just outside the museum, stop off at the ancient Pictish Farr Stone to marvel at the elaborate carvings, which date from around 800 to 850 AD.
Please note: The Strathnaver Museum is currently undergoing refurbishment and is due to reopen to the public in 2023. Visitors can still access the Bettyhill Tourist Information Centre where friendly volunteers will be on hand to help you discover more about north Sutherland and the surrounding north Highlands.
