For hundreds of years in communities across Arran, whisky (Arran Waters) was distilled in illegal stills before being smuggled between Lagg and Scotland's mainland. Opening its doors in 2019, Lagg Distillery in the south of Arran has revived the island's whisky heritage, albeit legally. The sister distillery of Lochranza, the Lagg Single Malt is distinct from its northern counterpart thanks to the unique smoky flavours - achieved by drying malted barley in burning peat.
