Dag 1 - Art, architecture and artisans

The Cloisters at the University of Glasgow

VisitScotland / Kenny Lam

Start your journey in Scotland's UNESCO City of Music Glasgow. The city is famous for its vibrant music scene and a plethora of cultural attractions, so take your time and explore some of the highlights the city has to offer.

  • Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum - Glasgow's trendy West End is home to Kelvingrove, a free museum packed with over 8,000 intriguing objects and artefacts. The museum houses an extraordinary collection of art, from the Dutch Old Masters and the French Impressionists, to perhaps its most famous piece, Christ of St John of the Cross by Salvador Dali.
  • University of Glasgow - The University of Glasgow was established in 1451 and is the 4th oldest university in the English-speaking world. Today it has around 28,000 students. Explore the beautiful architecture, including the impressive Cloisters, as part of a self-guided tour or join one of the guided campus tours led by trained student guides. The Hunterian Museum, which is well worth a visit, can also be found within the university’s historic campus.
  • Hidden Lane in Finnieston - Hidden Lane is a real West End gem. From jewellers and designers to craftspeople and furniture upcyclers, this community of artists brings a pool of talent together. Get ready to spend those pennies and browse through its wonderful selection of shops, including Shona Jewellery, Nowhere and SPIN Pottery. Don't miss the Hidden Lane Tearoom and pop by for a cuppa and a homemade scone!

Dag 2 - Boats, castles and Highland coos

Fatiha and John at Kitchen Coos & Ewes

Channel 4

After exploring vibrant Glasgow, enjoy an adventure out at sea before your next stop takes you to Dunlop for an experience that will enchant your senses. Afterwards, visit a historic castle and get up close and personal with our beloved Highland coos.

  • Clyde Sea Boat Tours - Get ready for an unforgettable adventure off the Scottish west coast! Sea Clyde Boat Tours take you out on the water to discover beautiful scenery and spot fascinating wildlife like seals and maybe even porpoises and dolphins. See the Isle of Cumbrae and Little Cumbrae up close and enjoy views over to the Isle of Bute and Arran. If you want to make your boat trip extra special, book the Sunset + Fizz tour to experience all this as well as a fantastic sunset with a glass of Scottish gooseberry wine in your hand!
  • Sorores Aromatherapy - If you love to surround yourself with the most beautiful scents, plan a visit to Sorores Aromatherapy in Dunlop. Here you'll find soaps, soy candles and more, all ethically and sustainably produced by the sisters Dominika and Basia. They believe in only using natural ingredients and all of their products are vegan, handmade and zero waste. They also offer workshops on how to make candles and facial oils.
  • Dunure Castle - Drive along the Ayrshire coast until you reach the pretty harbour village of Dunure. Walk down to the coast and you'll see the impressive ruins of Dunure Castle, perched high up on a cliff. At the other end of the small beach, you can visit Dunure Labyrinth, or stroll past the dovecot that is shaped like a beehive to explore Dunure Harbour.
  • Kitchen Coos & Ewes - Our fluffy Highland coos are simply irresistible and getting up close will be a highlight of any trip to Scotland. For a fantastic experience, visit Kitchen Coos & Ewes in Dumfries & Galloway. Here you can choose from a variety of tours that don't just take you out into the fields in a safari trailer but also offer unique experiences from grooming a coo to taking the most Insta-worthy snaps of this Scottish icon. If you book the Hands-on Coo Tour, you will also get a chance to meet the "Cuddle Monsters", a bunch of big and friendly Highland coos with no horns, which makes them very safe and ultra cute.

After this exciting day, have a relaxing night at The Murray Arms in Gatehouse of Fleet or enjoy your turn running a wee bookshop and stay at The Open Book in Wigtown, Scotland's National Book Town. Visit Wigtown during the first weekend of May to experience the Spring Weekend or plan a trip in autumn and visit the legendary Wigtown Book Festival.

Dag 3 - Seafood, ghosts and a fairytale castle

Fatiha and John at Caerlaverock Castle

Strongwatch Studios

Spend your third day exploring more of the wonders of the south of Scotland. Discover the quirky Artist's Town of Kirkcudbright and try delicious seafood before taking part in a ghost tour that will show you a very different side of Dumfries. Finally, visit the majestic Caerlaverock Castle and enjoy the peaceful woodland walks surrounding it.

  • Kirkcudbright - this charming little town sits on the banks of the River Dee. For generations, this idyllic town with its pastel houses has attracted many artists. There are still artists living and working here today, proving that Kirkcudbright more than lives up to its nickname ‘The Artists’ Town’. The many independent shops in the town are well worth a visit. If you've worked up an appetite while out exploring, pop into Swally n' Scran for some fresh seafood. They also host delicious events from time to time that you wouldn't want to miss.
  • Mostly Ghostly Tours - Are you a fan of the supernatural? You have come to the right place. Scotland isn't just a country with a wealth of stories, myths and legends, we also have many fantastic storytellers who will bring them to life – and maybe give you a wee fright in the process! Mostly Ghostly Tours provide award-winning tours that delve deeper into the spooky history of Dumfries and the local area. Are you feeling brave?
  • Caerlaverock Castle - Surrounded by its own moat and built in an unusual triangular shape, kids and adults alike will have a blast exploring the ruins of Caerlaverock Castle. There are multiple levels within the castle to explore as well as a short nature walk through the woods to the site of the old castle.

Dag 4 - Nature, night sky and adventure

The Merrick is the highest summit in the south of Scotland

Galloway & Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere

John and Fatiha discovered there's a UNESCO Biosphere nearby so why not stay a little bit longer to explore it? The Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere is a place full of outdoor adventures, geological wonders and fascinating history. It is also famous for its incredibly dark night sky so make sure to take a look at countless twinkling stars and constellations at night.

  • Galloway & Southern Ayrshire Biosphere - The Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere is a vast region in the southwest of Scotland, full of untouched coastlines, ancient forests and historic rural commuities. It's an important habitat for local flora and fauna and the perfect place for anyone who wants to connect with nature and spend time outdoors. Choose from a huge variety of activities and places to see to discover what makes this biosphere so special.
  • Galloway Activity Centre - Are you looking for an exciting adventure in the outdoors? Galloway Activity Centre on the banks of Loch Ken has got you covered! Choose from a variety of water-based activities like windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding or the wobbly waterpark or stay dry and try your hand at archery, laser tag and the climbing tower. You can also hire mountain bikes and explore the forest tracks of the Galloway Forest Park.
  • Galloway International Dark Sky Park - Scotland's landscapes are a dream come true for any explorer, but did you know that there are more breathtaking sights waiting for you at night? Plan a trip to Galloway Forest Park, one of the first places in the world to be designated as an International Dark Sky Park. Thanks to its remote location, Galloway has one of the darkest night skies, offering a fantastic opportunity for stargazing. Cloud cover permitting, you'll be able to spot more than 7,000 stars and the Milky Way with the naked eye.
