Amazing tours and things to do in Arran

From towering hills, and fabulous mountain biking trails, to many local foodie havens, safari trips and spa retreats, there are hundreds of incredible things to do in Arran everyone will love. There are many points of interest across Arran where history and archaeology buffs can explore the island's prehistoric stone circles and stunning castles. The island is also perfect for a day trip from Glasgow.

    Brodick Castle, Garden and Country Park

    Head to Brodick Castle and Gardens on the east coast of the island, and keep your eyes peeled for fluffy red squirrels bouncing from tree to tree in the woodlands around you. The castle is home to formal gardens, woodlands, waterfalls, and an adventure playground, all whilst offering spectacular views over Brodick Bay and across to the Ayrshire coast.

    Goat Fell

    The highest point on the Isle of Arran at 2,866 ft (874 m), Goat Fell is an incredibly dominant part of the island's skyline, featuring jagged summits and ridges. This rugged landscape is the perfect getaway for walking enthusiasts. Come along and venture on the challenging climb to the top where you can soak up the spectacular panoramic views for miles around you.

    Isle of Arran Distillery and Lagg Distillery

    Open all year round for guided tours and whisky tastings, the Isle of Arran Distillery is a must-visit! At the north of the island, it's the only working distillery on Arran and has been here since the 1800s, so you can expect high-quality drams and a wealth of interesting history to uncover along the way.

    Lagg Distillery is located on the very southern tip of the island, by Kilmory, and is the newest addition to Arran's brewing scene. This distillery produces a heavily peated spirit, and offers intriguing distillery tours and tastings, as well as a choice of two dining options, a distillery shop and much more to enjoy.

    Brodick on the east coast is home to the Isle of Arran Brewery where you can join in with tours, tastings and delve into the captivating history of this modern microbrewery. Venture on a tour where you can take in the sights and smells of this traditional beer-making process through the viewing gallery and observation windows, then afterwards stop off at the gift shop where you can purchase a wide range of gifts as well as some of the ales from the brewery.

    Machrie Moor Stone Circles

    The Machrie Moor Stone Circles on the west side of Arran are an impressive collection of no less than six stones that boast a strong Neolithic and ancient atmosphere. The moor itself is a rich archaeological landscape that features stone circles, standing stones, burial cairns and cists, which all date back to 3500 BC.

    Lochranza Golf Course

    Located on the north coast of the island, Lochranza Golf Course is known for being one of the most beautiful locations in Scotland to play a round or two. Choose from an 11 or 18 hole par three pitch and putt, with all day passes, 3-day passes, weekly passes and seasonal passes available too. The course is also perfect for the whole family to enjoy, and dogs are welcome too, so long as they are well-behaved.

    Boasting a lovely coastal location, Brodick Golf Course is within easy walking distance of the ferry and a fairly short course, but is still challenging and features some great par 3s. Afterwards, you can stop off at the Clubhouse for a drink and some snacks whilst enjoying the pretty views across the fairway with Goat Fell in the distance.

Enjoy a variety of activities, such as gorge walking, abseiling, raft building,  guided walks, archery, axe-throwing and more. You can also leave the hassle of booking your holiday behind with the centre's all-inclusive Family Activity Holidays where you can experience a range of exciting activities set in stunning scenery. A typical holiday includes two activities a day, with the evenings free to relax, or explore Arran for yourselves.

    Just off the Isle of Arran, Holy Isle features an ancient spiritual heritage which dates all the way back to the sixth century! Visit the sacred site, which is dedicated to peace and wellbeing, as well as there being a Centre for World Peace and Health located at the north of the island which offers an ongoing course and retreat programme. The King's Cave features a series of caves nestled in the sandstone cliffs on the west coast just south of Machrie.
