Glamping in Scotland

If camping is a bit wild and rustic for you, then you need to go glamping in Scotland. Enjoy the great outdoors with comfort on a glamping holiday where you can stay in a wigwam, teepee, yurt or a pod with a hot tub and gaze up at the stars on a clear night.

One of the most recent travel trends, this phenomenon combines a little slice of glamour and luxury. So, you may find yourself deep in the wilderness but your accommodation will provide you with sockets for hairdryers and iPods, a proper bed, a TV and a fridge to make your stay much more comfortable.

Learn more about camping in Scotland

Why Scotland offers some of the best glamping locations

In Scotland you can find magnificent glamping locations across the country. Enjoy glamping on the west coast with breathtaking seascapes outside your window, or head off for glamping on the east coast of Scotland where you can explore lots of city attractions and countryside gems.

Elsewhere, glamping in the Scottish Highlands is a real treat. Surround yourself with lush greenery and towering mountains - perfect for an escape from the bustling cities.

Wigwams and teepees

Glamping holiday accommodation comes in all shapes and sizes. Choose a teepee for that traditional close-to-nature camping experience or if you're more into your home comforts, then wigwams in Scotland are your best bet. You can even get wigwams with hot tubs and wigwams in Loch Lomond.

Find your perfect tent

Teepee tents are often handcrafted, with natural wooden poles, pegs and cotton canvas covers. They're also known as tipi, kata and lavvu, and have a rich history among Native American and Sami populations.

These pre-pitched traditional tents are based more closely on the Native American designs - taller in height than the Sami Lavvu (or Kata).

  • Teepees are environmentally-friendly accommodation as they have a low environmental impact.
  • Tipis often have spacious and bright interiors filled with colourful Afghan rugs and cosy sheepskins.
  • Some models of tipi have a vent at the top meaning that campfires can be lit within the tipi itself.

Wigwams in Scotland

In traditional Native American cultures, a wigwam is a domed-shaped dwelling. The wigwams in Scotland today are closer to a cosy timber cabin. Built for the 21st century, these wigwams in Scotland are fully insulated and have a basic sleeping space alongside our modern essentials - including the kitchen sink!

Escape to the country and spend a romantic weekend getaway or enjoy a memorable short break with the family in one of these wigwam glamping sites. Relax surrounded by Scotland's stunning nature or get cosy in your cabin after a day spent exploring.

Look out for wigwams with clever, functional design to maximise space. Top-of-the-range models come with electrical sockets, kitchenettes, TVs and more.

What else to expect in teepees and wigwams

  • Self-catering kitchen essentials - such as cooking utensils, plates and cutlery.
  • Luxury wigwams and teepees - some accommodation will have hot tubs and ensuite bathroom facilities, and some hosts might offer special hampers, breakfasts and BBQ packs filled with local produce.
  • Pet and dog friendly - teepees and wigwams are often a great option if you want to explore Scotland with a furry friend.

Stay in a yurt

Spend a night (or two, or three!) in a yurt in Scotland and wake up to a new morning in a gorgeously scenic location – no tent pegs required!

Learn more about yurts

Yurts are the traditional dwellings of central Asian nomads and have been in use for at least 3,000 years. Round and portable, traditional yurts are made up of a wooden frame covered in a layer of felt and possibly canvas, making them watertight and sturdy.

Yurts offer a high-end glamping experience and stress-free outdoor sleeping, as they are ready and waiting when you arrive.

There are lots of locations in Scotland where you can find yurts, from rural country escapes on farmlands to coastal retreats with accessible beaches and loch side hideaways.

Features

  • A well-furnished interior, with features such as a wood burning stove, cosy bed, comfortable cushions and large patterned rugs.
  • They are often close to places where you can take a hot shower, charge your phone or connect to Wi-Fi.

Luxury glamping with hot tubs

Find your ideal camping break. Make it extra special by choosing a glamping holiday with a hot tub.

Pet-friendly glamping

Scotland offers a variety of pet-friendly glamping accommodation or provides dog beds or kennels along with your cabin or lodge. Choose a plentiful forest or woodland spot with many trails and routes your pooch can enjoy exploring, or head to the beach for a splash in the sea - just make sure they are well-behaved and you clean up after them.

Eco-friendly glamping

Eco glamping in Scotland is a great choice if you're looking to have a sustainable break away. Many eco-friendly places to stay pride themselves on being sustainable through 'living off the land', less use of electricity and even glamping huts made out of sustainable and recycled materials.

Enjoy a countryside retreat at Murrayshall Country Estate's new glamping pods coming in summer 2025, where you will be able to experience a unique and eco-friendly sanctuary in the heart of Perthshire.
