Glentress Forest, Scottish Borders

Faskally Forest, near Pitlochry

Enjoy peaceful woodland trails through mixed woodland and along the River Tummel, just outside Pitlochry. Known for its easy-to-follow paths and scenic viewpoints, it's ideal for gentle strolls and relaxed riverside walks. In spring, fresh greenery and birdsong brings the forest to life and cool down in summer with shaded routes beside the water. Autumn is a standout month here with its fiery gold and red foliage that reflect off the river. During winter, you can still expect the same magic. With its bare branches, it's easier to spot birds and woodland wildlife.

Kinnoull Hill, Perthshire

This fantastic walking escape is within easy reach of Perth, offering woodland paths that quickly lead you into nature without travelling far. From woodland paths and steady uphill walks to gentle forest loops, you're truly spoilt for choice here. Enjoy a piece of history as you pass through Kinnoull Tower and remnants of old estate landscapes that add interest along the way.

Coastal trails

Immerse yourself in dramatic seascapes, explore quiet coves and bays and see some spectacular marine wildlife, with this collection of sublime coastal trails.

John Muir Way

This coast to coast walking and cycling route runs 134 miles across central Scotland from Helensburgh to Dunbar.

Fife Coastal Path

The Fife Coastal Path runs 117 miles (188 km) from Kincardine in the south of Fife to Newburgh up on the banks of the River Tay.

John o' Groats Trail

Hugging the coastline from Inverness to John o’ Groats, this trail can be done in sections or as a long-distance route.

Long-distance trails

These routes are ideal for walkers looking to emark on a rewarding multi-day adventure, with each day bringing new scenery, fresh challenges and a real sense of achievement.

Laggan Locks

West Highland Way

This 154 km (96 mile) route runs from Milngavie near Glasgow to Fort William in the Highlands. Considered as one of Scotland's most iconic walking adventures, you'll pass through shimmering lochs, open moorland and dramatic scenery across Loch Lomond, Rannoch Moor and be treated to impressive views of Ben Nevis. It's ideal for walkers looking to enjoy a classic multi-day challenge at their own pace and can normally be completed in 5-8 days.

The Great Glen Way

Usually completed in 5-7 days, this scenic long-distance walk stretches 127 km (79 miles) from Fort William to Inverness. Enjoy a blend of peaceful forest tracks, gentle towpaths and elevated viewpoints. It's best suited to walkers who are looking to savour the best of Highland scenery and the comfort of knowing there are villages and cafés to explore and refuel along the way. The good news is that The Great Glen Way is walkable year-round, with spring to autumn offering longer days and milder weather.

The Whithorn Way

This historic long-distance walking route invites you to slow down and follow in the footsteps of pilgrims who once travelled this route for over 1,300 years. Stretching around 250 km (155 miles) from Glasgow Cathedral to Whithorn Priory, it can be walked in 12-14 stages but can be shortened if necessary. Immerse yourself in a rich mix of countryside, forest tracks, coastal paths and historic towns before finishing at the historic Whithorn Priory. If you're not strapped for time, you can continue your journey to the dramatic coastal setting of St Ninian's Cave. The Whithorn Way can be explored year-round but we recommend that only experienced walkers tackle this route during winter.
