Discover some of the best street food experiences in Scotland’s cities, including Japanese and Indian street food – each telling a unique culinary story.

    Located in the buzzing St James Quarter, this beautiful food hall is home to 13 chef-led stalls, showcasing the best in modern Scottish and international cuisine with a focus on seasonal and locally sourced ingredients.

    Pick up a Scottish seafood platter or fish taco from Creel Caught by MasterChef winner Gary Maclean. Experience the tantalising flavours of Hong Kong at Salt & Chilli Oriental cooked up by an award-winning TikTok star chef, or order the epic Kotthu and Hopper dishes at the Winner of the People’s Choice at the Scottish Street Food Awards, Kochchi, for an explosive culinary journey to Sri Lanka.

    Get the "Best Burger in the UK" at El Perro Negro for a decadent treat. The buttermilk fried chicken is a firm favourite at Chooks, while Leith Woks offers creative recipes marrying Chinese flavours with Scottish products.

    The stuffed cookies at Chulo’s are simply indulgent yet dangerously alluring, while pancake supremos Stack & Still offer over 12 million pancake combinations from their 'build-your-own' menu.

  2. Dockyard Social Glasgow

    What started by a group of friends with a view to bring a new dining set-up to Glasgow is today the West End's slickest food spot to be at the weekend!

    Dockyard Social is a dynamic food hall in a converted industrial warehouse where you can taste many styles of celebrated cuisine in an incredibly friendly environment. So much so that kids are welcome, and they love dogs – a lot – too!

    This is a ticketed pop-up venue, open every Friday – Sunday, which includes a drink on arrival (a great start, if you ask me), themed bars, and live DJ sets.

    Escape to the lively streets of Thailand for chicken Pad Thai and chilli fried rice with sticky pork at Bangkok Street Food, try the soft and flavourful pork in a sauce with liliko'i – which is Hawaiian for passion fruit – at Far Out Bao, or treat yourself to mouth-watering loaded wings and vibrant zesty slaws at McFly’s Chicken. Here you’ll also find hand-stretched Neapolitan pizzas at PizzaBGood and juicy belt-busting burgers at Smashed.

  3. Heather Street Food Dundee

    Heather Street Food, picturesquely sitting on the riverside just behind Scotland’s first design museum, the V&A, have become a must-try when in Dundee. The food served from the colourful J Van has won two Great Taste Awards for their produce.

    Try fresh and sweet feel-good donuts, made in house using organic British flour, with melted chocolate or pink icing and dragon fruit. Munch on Italian style toasted and crunchy smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels, or opt for their halloumi fries, oregano and feta fries, parmesan fries and sriracha fries.

    Their space is very versatile and can transform to an ice cream parlour or a beer garden, serving gin, cocktails, mocktails and pints (from 12 noon) with locally foraged garnishes. With al fresco dining and flowing Prosecco, you’ll feel like you’re on holiday!

    Don’t get put off by the queues – they can be long, but are certainly worth the wait, especially for their award-winning locally roasted coffee.

    Food is meant to be celebrated and that’s exactly what they do at Stag Bites The Hog.

    Cooking up quality Scottish meats in the best way – low’n’slow’ – this husband-and-wife team knows how to bring out the very best flavours in their food. They mastered the technique of smoking the meats and know that it elevates the dishes with flavour explosions you would never imagine!

    With the ever-changing menu, you never know what new and interesting flavour combo you’ll get. Will it be confit venison cheesesteaks, smoked pork banh mi baguette, or maybe slow braised boozy brisket loaded fries and hickory BBQ smoked butternut flatbread?

    These guys are not only big on flavour but sustainability too. The majority of their ingredients are sourced from quality local butchers for their meat, and Alloa based Central Produce is their fruit and veg specialist.

  5. Mamacita's Miami Eats Edinburgh

    Be it a feast or a light bite, Mamacita’s Miami Eats is an independent, locally owned café serving street food inspired by Cuban American flavours found throughout Miami and Florida.

    Located in the heart of Portobello High Street, here you’ll find the classic Cuban Mojo sandwich with ‘puerco asado’ (roasted pork), the Frita Cubana which is ‘the original Cuban burger’ served with shoestring fries, guava ketchup, avocado and Swiss cheese.

    Or if you’re just after a snack, you can’t go wrong ordering yucca fries, also called cassava fries, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside with a slightly sweet, nutty flavour. Or tostones, crispy sweet plantains that have been fried, smashed and fried again, and sprinkled with salt – they are to die for! Mamacita’s Miami Eats also serves empanadas and Latin bowls. 

    It’s going down a storm with locals – make sure you try it for yourself!

    Found on Aberdeen’s Beach Boulevard at Shiprow Village, pop into Shipyard Streetfood for a fine feed.

    This vibrant eatery offers a diverse menu inspired by global street food, serving dishes that are crafted with bold flavours and quality ingredients, and that are perfect for sharing.

    They are bringing their A-game with their unique wing offerings. Choose from the finger-licking good, slow cooked wings tossed in Biscoff hot sauce and Biscoff crumbs, or for a food adventure on a new level opt for wings tossed in Irn Bru or Guiness hot sauce – an absolute must-try!

    From the fiery Buffalo Blue, which is wedges or waffle fries loaded with crispy chicken strips, smoked cheese, buffalo hot sauce, blue cheese sauce and jalapenos, to the bold Korean BBQ brisket tacos or banging bans, including the Sailor Jerry crispy chicken bun, every dish here is a cooked to perfection and you’re sure to find something that your palate will love.

    Tucked away in the heart of the West End, Glasgow’s first Vietnamese canteen offers an ever-changing menu that is packed with a range of flavourful street food dishes that will tantalise your taste buds.

    Made daily from scratch in house, they have all your cravings covered. Choose from their authentic and heart-warming bowls of pho (rice noodle-based broths with meat cuts) or traditional, organic tofu dishes, or opt for coconut caramel monkfish scampi or the sticky ginger-caramel glazed chicken thighs. There is a great selection of curries and stir-fries too!

    The vibe is brought together by the totally unique interiors, with bicycles hanging from the ceiling, colourful lantern lights, an eclectic mix of furniture, and a pretty balcony for alfresco eats.

    Whether you’re new to Korean cuisine or a long-standing fan, get ready for a flavour explosion at Pinko’s Korean Street Food.

    A regular at Perth Farmers Market, Pinko’s mouth-watering food delights are, frankly speaking, addictive and will have you coming back for more.

    Look for Korean staples like the beloved fried chicken in sweet chilli sauce served with rice and delicious tteokbokki (sweet and spicy rice cakes) – an absolute must-try for anyone who loves fried chicken, the famous corn dogs packed with gooey mozzarella cheese, or their unique tattie dog – wrapped in crispy chips for the perfect crunch.

    There is also a delectable selection of kimbap (a seaweed rice roll), meat and veggie cupbap (rice bowls) and combo chicken and beef bulgogi (thinly sliced grilled or stir-fried meats) among other lip-smacking choices. And, of course, Korea’s most famous side dish, kimchi! Try Pinko’s Neep Kimchi, made in Perthshire using British and Scottish vegetable.

  9. Dhoom Dunfermline

    Their seating is quirky and fun too. You can sit at a table for four in a Tuk Tuk, in a rope-swing seat for two with chandelier lighting, or traditional seating lit by a monkey table lamp.

    From Tokyo with love!

    The acclaimed chef behind Harajuku Kitchen injects the very essence of Japanese cuisine into their food, skilfully blending traditional family recipes and techniques with fresh Scottish and Asian ingredients.

    This small but intimate, award-winning restaurant, with Japan-inspired artwork on the wall, have woven their magic right into the heart of Edinburgh's Brunstfield. They offer authentic food that’s been passionately prepared with AA rosette level flair and served in a warm, relaxing atmosphere.

    Looking at their attentively designed menu, you’ll find a diverse selection of dishes, from takoyaki octopus dough balls, chicken karaage and beef tataki to freshly prepared, hand-rolled sushi, sashimi, nigiri and traditional Japanese bento boxes. Their famous crispy gyoza dumplings and noodles, as well as the signature crispy kara-age chicken with homemade sweet chili sauce, are not to be missed too.

  11. The Redshank Inverness

    Get ready to have your expectations for takeaway food completely blown away at The Redshank. This well-known seafood eatery in Inverness is acclaimed for its lively street food scene and cuisine that is sourced locally.

    Since its founding, it has transformed from a food truck to a cherished fixture in the city's culinary landscape and today can be found within the vibrant Victorian Market's Food & Drink Hall in the heart of Inverness and down at Inverness Marina.

    Their food is sure to give you the happy food wiggle. Indulge in salt and pepper squid, Peterhead haddock n’ chips, Shetland king scallop tacos, Cape Wrath oysters, smoked Scottish salmon salad and lots more! The traditional local soup, Cullen Skink, deserves a special mention too!

  12. Mowgli Glasgow and Edinburgh

    'Dip' into India for generous, soul-satisfying cuisine at Mowgli in Glasgow or Edinburgh.

    Although it's a restaurant by nature, the unique dining experience is inspired by the way Indians eat at home and on the streets. The focus is on small plates, authentic spices, fresh herbs, and zesty flavours that reflect their honest, vibrant street food. Swing seats, hanging lanterns, and sparkling fairy lights all contribute to the restaurant's cozy and welcoming setting.

    You might struggle to pick your favourites from the menu - but who can blame you, with such a fantastic variety on offer! Treat this like the perfect excuse to sample multiple dishes maybe?

    Enjoy a table full of Mowgli's iconic dishes including yoghurt chat bombs, fenugreek kissed fries, and tiffin sharing roulette (three dishes chosen by the chef – a total potluck).   13. The Pitt Edinburgh

    Did someone turn up the heat? Because The Pitt certainly feels like the one of the hottest street food venues in Scotland!

    Initially opened in 2015, it quickly became a cornerstone of the city's street food scene. It's named after its original location in Leith but now has a new permanent base at West Shore Road on the Granton Promenade. 

    This new social and cultural space hosts a rotating line-up of resident food trucks and guest vendors, serving a wide range of award-winning cuisine daily.

    Take a midday culinary ‘trip’ to Nepal at Choola offering momos and curries, among other traditional Nepalese delicacies. Food at Fire Bowl is East Asian-style, inspired by travels in Japan and Korea, Lazeez cooks up original Lebanese delights, including shish and fully halal options, while Buffalo Truck is famous for their buttermilk fried chicken burgers and wings. You’ll also find freshly created cocktails and mocktails from Pulp Friction, desserts from Social Bite and coffee from Long Shot Coffee.
