Mid November – early January
The Edinburgh Christmas Market fills East Princes Street Gardens with stalls from Scottish and European crafters, artists, and independent retailers. Visitors can enjoy the Big Wheel, festive food and drink, and Santa’s Stories in St Andrew Square, where children meet Santa and send letters to the North Pole.
George Street is home to the spectacular Edinburgh Christmas Ice Rink, a vital part of any festive visit. Once you've skated your way round the rink, you can warm up with a hot drink or treat from food stalls located nearby. Attractions also include fairground rides, from a charming double carousel to the Polar Ice Bar - the coolest place in the capital to enjoy a festive beverage. Make sure you wrap up warm!

Throughout the season, the city hosts live music, street performances, theatre shows, and light installations.
Edinburgh’s historic streets and landmarks provide a dramatic backdrop, especially with Edinburgh Castle overlooking many of the main event spaces. Taking place from late November to early January, The Castle of Light returns to Scotland's most famous castle to brighten up your winter nights and dazzle the whole family with extraordinary light displays across the castle walls. Another highlight is the spectacular Christmas at the Botanics annual event, held at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. You’ll find enchanting, illuminated trails, sparkling installations, and seasonal sounds that transform the gardens into a magical festive wonderland, perfect for all ages.

New Year Celebrations
Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations are among the most famous in the world. The multi-day event usually includes an annual torchlight procession on 29 December, as well as large outdoor concerts and spectacular midnight fireworks. On 31 December, the party begins at Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Street Party. Get ready to dance the night away into the wee small hours at the Concert in the Gardens where you’ll see some of the biggest artists take centre-stage.
